William A Wray, MD

Thanks to a long-time family friend, interest in skin disease began early in Dr. Wray’s life. “In sixth grade, I wrote a paper stating that I wanted to be a dermatologist because ‘Dr. A,’ as I called him, used to give me his old textbooks and journals and always tell me what fascinating and rewarding career dermatology is.” Dr. Wray kept his focus on becoming a dermatologist through high school at Evangelical Christian School in Memphis, TN. He completed his premedical studies with a degree in biology from The University of Memphis, graduating summa cum laude in 1983. He received a scholarship to medical school from the US Air Force and earned his Doctor of Medicine with honors from The University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in 1987. Upon entering active duty, Dr. Wray completed his internship year of postgraduate medical education at Travis Air Force Base in northern California. He and his new bride Michelle then moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where he served as a flight surgeon at K.I. Sawyer AFB, caring for and flying with the B52 and KC135 crews stationed there. (That was the first real winter that Tennessee couple had ever experienced!)
His dream of becoming a dermatologist was finally realized when he was accepted into the outstanding residency program at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, TX. Upon completion of his training and assignment to Fairchild ABF, Dr. Wray and Michelle moved to Spokane in 1992, where they lived for four years in a South Hill bungalow and welcomed their first son. Dr. Wray and his young family moved back to Tennessee after serving nine years on active duty. For the next 11 years, he worked in a busy multi-specialty clinic where he gained much experience in the diagnosis and treatment of skin diseases, but the beauty and the lifestyle of the Inland Northwest refused to leave their heart. In 2006, he received an unexpected phone call from Dr. Michael Ryan, a long-time Spokane dermatologist who had also served at Fairchild, inviting him to consider returning to Spokane, to join him in his northside office, due to the retirement of his associate Dr. Paul Becker. Delighted by the opportunity and grateful for God’s providence, the Wray packed up their four sons and moved back to Spokane, where they enjoy the outdoors year-round – hiking, camping, biking, boating, kayaking, snow skiing. They are active at Church and love the symphony, hanging out with friends, a great cup of coffee, and family walks with their Rhodesian Ridgeback, Jethro.

Irene Bayer, PA-C, moved to Spokane with her family when she was eight. Her father, a KC-135 pilot, was stationed at Fairchild. She graduated from Mead high school, and University of Washington and Washington State University for her undergraduate studies, graduating summa cum laude. In 2002, She completed her physician assistant training at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, earning her master's degree in medical science with highest honors, as well as achieving board certification from the NCCPA, reflecting her high level of clinical and medical skills. It was during this time she discovered her love for dermatology, and she has gained 20 years of experience in that field. In addition to treating patients with skin disease, she loves to teach at the University of Washington Medex PA program in Spokane, speaking on behalf of various pharmaceutical advisory boards, and as a guest lecturer for the National Psoriasis Foundation and the Veteran's Affairs hospital. When she is not working, she enjoys the outdoors and is very involved in her daughter's school and their church. She loves movies, books, and traveling, and she can often be seen on various trails around the area walking her Australian Labradoodle, Cosmo.
